Unfortunately, health issues do arise. We try our best to reduce any issues by breeding specifically paired dogs that have completed all health testing’s that includes DNA genetics. We hope that if the parents are proven healthy by several tested health certifications that their offspring’s overall health should also be similar or better.

Golden Retrievers are known to have their issues like many other breeds. Hip dysplasia and cancer seem to be the most prevalent. Cancer unfortunately is still unknown how exactly a dog or even humans may get it. Hip dysplasia seems to arise from several factors such as diet, injuries, and growth defects. There is still a possibility that a significant health situation could arise after making a purchase of a dog. To avoid any unexpected health issues for the customer or myself, I have a licensed veterinarian that does a full physical prior to the sale of the puppy. If there are any health issues, it’s documented and provided in the puppy folder that you will receive upon pickup day. Any health issues are communicated prior to the sale. We do recommend that you have a scheduled appointment with your own veterinarian soon after the purchase of your dog.

If an unforeseen health issues still does arise after the purchase of a dog, I do have a health guarantee. The health guarantee was established by New York State. The health guarantee protects costumers when a dog is unfit for purchase due to an illness, a congenital malformation (which adversely affects the health of the dog), or the presence of symptoms of a contagious or infectious disease. This must be documented by a licensed veterinarian. Customers who believe they purchased an unfit dog must communicate their concerns with me. I will do my best to help and provide guidance that may be entitled to a refund, reimbursement for veterinary expenses, or a replacement dog.

To qualify for a refund or a replacement dog, a purchaser must obtain a veterinary certification that the animal is unfit within fourteen business days of the purchase/ pickup day. The purchaser must return the dog to me within three business days after obtaining this certification. I must receive a copy of this certification with copies of all records and receipts that were provided by the veterinarian.

Under the health guarantee, purchasers are also entitled to reimbursement of the cost of obtaining such certification. If the customer chooses to try to cure the dog after receiving a veterinary certification, he or she may receive reimbursement for the reasonable value of services rendered. I expect full communication from the purchaser and the licensed veterinarian that made the diagnosis of the dog being unfit.
